Infants

Infants are defined as children under two years of age. Infants may fly without a seat on the plane, on the lap of an accompanying adult. If you wish you can buy a seat for an infant at the infant fare. Children over two years of age must have their own seat on the plane. If one adult is traveling with two infants, one seat must be purchased for one infant, and the other may be held on the lap.

Thai AirAsia FAQs

Find quick answers to the most common questions about flying with Thai AirAsia.

Is Thai AirAsia FD’s free cabin baggage allowance 7 kg per bag or 7 kg in total?

The two items must weigh no more than 7 kg combined. The cabin bag may measure up to 56 × 36 × 23 cm, including handles, wheels and side pockets. The smaller bag may measure up to 40 × 30 × 10 cm and must fit under the seat in front. Strapping several items together does not make them one item.

Can I buy Xtra Carry-On at the airport for a Thai AirAsia flight?

Under the notice effective 13 April 2026, Xtra Carry-On must be pre-booked on the AirAsia MOVE website or app at least 2 hours before departure and is not sold at airport counters. The airport-counter option adds up to 3 kg, for a maximum total of 10 kg; it is a different option.

Does an infant under two have a cabin baggage allowance on Thai AirAsia, and is a stroller free?

An infant under two has no separate cabin baggage allowance. A stroller used by an accompanying infant or child can be checked free of charge; otherwise checked baggage allowance must be purchased. A foldable stroller taken into the cabin must fit within the existing cabin baggage allowance, rather than receiving an extra allowance.

What documents does Thai AirAsia recommend when travelling with a child under 18 who has a different surname?

The airline recommends carrying a consent letter signed by both parents and the child’s original birth certificate to show permission from the absent lawful parent or guardian. This is the customs and immigration recommendation reproduced on its help page; it does not replace passports, visas or other required entry documents.

Will Thai AirAsia guarantee that my family sits together if I do not select seats?

No. Seats are assigned randomly if you do not pre-book them. The airline says it tries to seat families together but cannot guarantee this, and recommends selecting seats when booking.

Can Thai AirAsia heat a baby bottle or infant food during the flight?

The help page states that its flights are not equipped to heat baby bottles or infant food. Bring enough infant food and supplies and plan feeding without onboard heating. Liquids and other items must also meet departure-airport security requirements.

Can one adult travel with two lap infants on Thai AirAsia?

No. The help page permits only one lap infant per adult. An infant may travel on the adult’s lap. Passengers aged two or above are treated as children and are not provided with an external infant seat belt.

How many power banks of up to 100 Wh may I carry on Thai AirAsia FD, and can they be checked?

The FD-specific page allows a maximum of two lithium-ion power banks per person when each is no more than 100 Wh. They must not be checked. Protect each against short circuits using original packaging, insulated exposed terminals, or a separate plastic bag or protective pouch. This answer does not establish permission for power banks above 100 Wh.

When must I notify Thai AirAsia FD about a mobility aid with a removable lithium-ion battery, and how is the battery carried?

Notify Thai AirAsia at least 48 hours before departure. The battery removed by the passenger must be carried in the cabin and must not exceed 300 Wh. Spare batteries are limited to one rated over 160 Wh but no more than 300 Wh, or two rated over 100 Wh but no more than 160 Wh. Batteries in poor condition or inadequately packed may be rejected.

What limits does Thai AirAsia FD apply to non-flammable, non-toxic aerosols over 100 ml and related toiletries?

The FD page prohibits non-flammable, non-toxic aerosols over 100 ml in cabin baggage. Eligible Division 2.2 sporting or household aerosols with no subsidiary risk, and non-radioactive medicinal or toiletry articles, may be checked subject to a total net limit of 2 kg or 2 L and a per-item limit of 0.5 kg or 0.5 L. Protect aerosol valves with caps or another suitable means against accidental release. These conditions do not cover every aerosol.
