Shanghai Airlines was founded in 1985. It is a subsidiary of China Eastern Airlines and is based in Shanghai, China. The airline operates scheduled passenger services out of both Pudong and Hongqiao airports. With a large fleet of almost 100 aircraft, Shanghai Airlines serves over 140 domestic and international destinations. Domestic and regional services are operated by Boeing 737 family aircraft while international services are performed by the airline's B787-9 Dreamliners.

Baggage

First Class passengers are allowed two pieces of carry-on baggage, while Business and Economy Class passengers are allowed one piece. All bags must not exceed 55 x 40 x 20 cm and weigh 5 kg. The maximum baggage allowance is 158 cm (sum of all dimensions). First Class: 2 seats (3 seats each for flights to/from Europe, Australia, Japan, and Dubai) up to 32 kg Business Class, W/Class, Economy Extra: 2 seats of 32 kg each. Economy Class: 2 seats of 23 kg each.

Pets

Pets are not allowed in the cabin. However, some flights allow small cats, dogs, and pets as baggage. The total weight of the pet and the carrier may not exceed 32 kg. Pets are charged as excess baggage. For pets carried in the cargo hold, medium-sized carriers may not exceed 81 cm x 55 cm x 58 cm, and large-sized carriers may not exceed 91 cm x 60 cm x 66 cm.

Infants

Infants are considered to be children under two years of age. Therefore, babies can fly without a seat on the plane, on the lap of an accompanying adult. If you prefer, you can buy a seat for an infant at the infant fare. Children over two years of age must have their own seat on the plane. If one adult is traveling with two infants, one seat must be purchased for one infant, and the other may be held on the lap.

Check-in can be done online (via the website or mobile app) or at the airport. Check-in desks open 150 minutes before departure and close 45 minutes before departure. Shanghai Airlines offers an online check-in service for all passengers with an e-ticket. However, only adults without special requirements can check in online.

Unaccompanied minors

Children over the age of five can travel alone. A minors' escort service is compulsory for children 5-11 years old. For children over 12 years old, the minors' escort service is not compulsory and can be booked at the parents' request.

Can an eight-year-old use Shanghai Airlines’ unaccompanied-minor service on a connection?

No. The service applies from age five until the twelfth birthday on eligible nonstop flights operated and coded by China Eastern or Shanghai Airlines, with confirmation required.

When must I request Shanghai Airlines wheelchair services?

Allow at least 24 hours for ground or boarding wheelchairs and 48 hours for onboard wheelchairs or electric-wheelchair carriage. Confirmation is required.

Does a mobility wheelchair count towards Shanghai Airlines baggage allowance?

No. It is free outside the ordinary allowance, subject to acceptance and confirmation.

Can I simply bring a pet to the airport after buying a Shanghai Airlines ticket?

No. Prior confirmation is required. Apply seven days to 48 hours ahead domestically, or at least 48 hours ahead internationally or regionally, on eligible nonstop flights.

Can a week-old infant fly on Shanghai Airlines?

No. Normally born infants must be at least 14 days old. Premature infants aged 14–89 days need medical documents and confirmation.

Can one adult take two lap infants on Shanghai Airlines?

No. An adult aged 18 or over may take two infants, but one needs a seat.

Apply with pregnancy or diagnostic documents issued within 30 days before travel. Acceptance must be confirmed.

Can I fly on Shanghai Airlines at 36 weeks pregnant?

No. Imminent delivery, multiple pregnancy and complications have further restrictions.

Can I charge a phone with a compliant power bank on Shanghai Airlines?

No. Using or charging power banks on board is prohibited, and they must not be stored overhead. Domestic flights also require clear 3C marking and a non-recalled model.
