Infants

Infants are defined as children younger than two years of age. Infants may fly without a seat on the plane, on the lap of an accompanying adult. If you wish, you can buy a seat for an infant at the infant fare. Children over two years of age must have their seats on the plane. Indonesia AirAsia FAQs

Find quick answers to the most common questions about flying with Indonesia AirAsia.

Do Indonesia AirAsia QZ domestic flights include checked baggage, and do older tickets all change to 15 kg?

The announcement dated 24 September 2025 introduces 15 kg of free checked baggage on domestic routes from 8 October 2025. Tickets purchased earlier retain the allowance applicable when purchased: 15 or 20 kg depending on the route.

What should I do if my checked bag exceeds 15 kg on an Indonesia AirAsia QZ domestic flight?

Purchase the required baggage allowance through AirAsia MOVE, the airline website or another official sales channel. Without an additional purchase, baggage over 15 kg incurs an excess charge at airport check-in. The announcement does not specify the charge.

Is Indonesia AirAsia QZ’s free cabin baggage allowance 7 kg per bag or 7 kg in total?

The two items must weigh no more than 7 kg combined. The cabin bag may measure up to 56 × 36 × 23 cm, including handles, wheels and side pockets. The smaller bag may measure up to 40 × 30 × 10 cm and must fit under the seat in front. Strapping several items together does not make them one item.

Does an infant under two have a cabin baggage allowance on Indonesia AirAsia, and is a stroller free?

An infant under two has no separate cabin baggage allowance. A stroller used by an accompanying infant or child can be checked free of charge; otherwise checked baggage allowance must be purchased. A foldable stroller taken into the cabin must fit within the existing cabin baggage allowance, rather than receiving an extra allowance.

What documents does Indonesia AirAsia recommend when travelling with a child under 18 who has a different surname?

The airline recommends carrying a consent letter signed by both parents and the child’s original birth certificate to show permission from the absent lawful parent or guardian. This is the customs and immigration recommendation reproduced on its help page; it does not replace passports, visas or other required entry documents.

Will Indonesia AirAsia guarantee that my family sits together if I do not select seats?

No. Seats are assigned randomly if you do not pre-book them. The airline says it tries to seat families together but cannot guarantee this, and recommends selecting seats when booking.

Can Indonesia AirAsia heat a baby bottle or infant food during the flight?

The help page states that its flights are not equipped to heat baby bottles or infant food. Bring enough infant food and supplies and plan feeding without onboard heating. Liquids and other items must also meet departure-airport security requirements.

Can one adult travel with two lap infants on Indonesia AirAsia?

No. The help page permits only one lap infant per adult. An infant may travel on the adult’s lap. Passengers aged two or above are treated as children and are not provided with an external infant seat belt.

Are airport purchases extra free cabin baggage on Indonesia AirAsia?

Generally, airport purchases count towards your cabin allowance. The stated exception is duty-free goods within the destination’s duty-free allowance, sealed in a Security Tamper-Evident Bag (STEB) until the final destination and accompanied by proof of purchase. Airport rules can vary; ordinary airport shopping is not automatically extra free baggage.

Can I use a stroller up to the gate on Indonesia AirAsia, and where will I collect it on arrival?

The help page permits stroller use up to the boarding gate before it is checked into the hold. Depending on the arrival airport, it may be returned at the bottom of the steps, outside the aircraft door or at baggage reclaim. Return at the aircraft door is therefore not guaranteed. A foldable stroller taken into the cabin must meet the cabin baggage allowance.
