Villa Air FAQs

Find quick answers to the most common questions about flying with Villa Air.

Does Villa Air’s 5 kg Economy cabin allowance include my personal bag?

Yes. The 5 kg total includes personal items such as a handbag, laptop bag, briefcase or small backpack. Items must fit safely under the seat or in an overhead compartment.

What are Villa Air’s standard Economy checked allowance and single-bag limit?

The ordinary baggage policy lists a standard Economy allowance of 20 kg per guest, excluding infants. One bag must not exceed 25 kg. The single-bag limit does not increase the free allowance to 25 kg.

How do I buy excess baggage on Villa Air, and do rates differ by nationality?

Additional baggage can be arranged at the airport counter or through a sales agent. The published rate is MVR 25 per kg for Maldivian guests and USD 5 per kg for foreign guests, with taxes additional.

Can sports equipment travel in Villa Air’s cabin, and how must equipment over 15 kg be packed?

Sports equipment travels as checked baggage only. Advise its dimensions when booking. Equipment over 15 kg must be split into two pieces, which are charged separately. Special excess charges apply when the applicable allowance is exceeded.

Does Villa Air count canes, walkers and CPAP devices against the normal cabin allowance?

Medical and mobility aids are excluded from the ordinary cabin baggage limits, but must be stowed safely. An aid may need to be checked if it is too large, cabin space is limited or it is not required during the flight. Contact reservations when booking or at least 24 hours before departure.

When should I request airport wheelchair assistance from Villa Air, and what does it cover?

Contact the reservations office at least 24 hours before the flight. Guest service representatives can assist from entry into the airport through check-in and boarding.

How far can a disabled guest use their own wheelchair on Villa Air, and is carriage charged?

A guest may use their manual or powered wheelchair to the gate and, where airport facilities permit, to the aircraft door. Non-collapsible manual and powered wheelchairs are accepted as checked baggage without charge for guests with disabilities. Cabin storage of a collapsible manual wheelchair depends on aircraft type and available space. Confirm the equipment details in advance.

How early must I arrange a pet with Villa Air, and are there number or pregnancy restrictions?

Contact guest services at least two days before departure and reserve space as early as possible. A maximum of one pet per guest is allowed, and pregnant pets are not accepted. The page describes checked-baggage or cargo transport, not a cabin-pet entitlement. Last-minute acceptance is not guaranteed and extra charges may apply.

What crate and booking information does Villa Air require for a pet travelling in the hold?

Use an IATA-approved cage with enough room for the animal to stand, turn around and lie down. A cage that is too small can lead to refusal. Provide the type, breed or species, sex, name, age, colour, pet weight, container weight and container length, width and height.

When do Villa Air check-in counters open, and what is the domestic reporting deadline?

Counters at Velana International Airport and regional airports open two hours before scheduled departure. For domestic flights, guests must report to the check-in counter and scan their boarding passes before 45 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Guests who do not report on time will not be accommodated.
